Have you received our recent emails from Jason at Monroe and wondered who is Jason? Wonder no more; my name is Jason Marsdale and it’s a pleasure to formally introduce myself. I joined Monroe’s team on January 4, 2016, and currently serve as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. To create a more personable experience with our customers, I have dedicated our marketing team to staying up-to-date on the available technologies we use to communicate. We hope you’ve noticed the improvements in our emails and blogs and we welcome any feedback.
What are your hobbies?
Discovering new marketing trends, helping local businesses/organizations better understand marketing, giving back to the community, listening to music, socializing, skiing, technology, and travel.
Where did you receive your education?
I attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and obtained a Bachelors of Science in Marketing. Rutgers provided a wonderful environment to learn about the business world.
Since graduating, I’ve been an active member of several boards to help Rutgers grow and maintain their reputation. Monroe has also hosted students from their Business Leader Development Program to share our knowledge and experiences with them.
What companies and leaders inspire you?
As a generation X guy, I find myself fascinated by Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google and Tesla. The innovations born inside of these companies have both amazed and inspired me. Among the most fascinating case studies I’ve read from these companies is when their technology is so ahead of its time that government policy must address the technologies in real-time. Topics such as data sharing and self-driving cars have captivated my attention for years.
What is my most memorable moment since being at Monroe?
This memory is from the night of a retirement dinner for our previous CEO, Dick Roberts. As we sat with Dick, we talked about his 40+ years spent working at Monroe. I found it incredibly interesting to hear about the growth and changes he had experienced in his time with the company. In addition to Dick’s career, I was impressed by the number of employees who have spent decades working at Monroe.
In his final speech addressing the Monroe staff, Dick talked about his commitment to Monroe’s financial strength, enabling the dedicated employees of Monroe to have a lifelong career at the company. His final words are the ones I've hung on to most. He said something along the lines of this, "Monroe is like a car that's been on a journey for the last 104 years. Along the way you will change tires, replace spark plugs, and other parts as needed. We do this to ensure that it will continue to run. I've done my part in keeping it running. Now, it’s on you to make sure everything’s taken care of, so it will run for another 104 years." I took those words to heart. When I accepted this job, I did it because I saw a serious opportunity to make history and to have a positive impact on the lives of our staff.
What Monroe printing calculator do I use?
I have the Monroe UltimateX; it sits to my left and is used on a daily basis. Admittedly, I had never used an adding machine prior to my time at Monroe. After a few lessons with our very own calculator experts, Mike Prasch and Joe Spurka, I have grown to LOVE using the UltimateX. Transitioning from my prior experience with a basic handheld calculator, cell phone calculator, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, I was shocked to see how efficient I could become when running numbers on a Monroe. I have OCD with checking my math. Prior to Monroe, I often found myself committing errors and re-entering my math multiple times. Now, I can confidently enter my math once and review my printed audit trail to confirm my accuracy.
