Your Checklist for the Must Have Office Supplies

When starting a new business or building a new office, knowing "the must have" office supplies can be difficult. Here's a checklist to ensure you get the right supplies.

If you're starting a new business or moving to a new office, you know that there's an overwhelming amount of things to think about. You've got your office space, your employees - and now you must have office supplies.

Even if you're not starting from scratch, there are still a few essentials that you might be missing. Make sure you've got them all so that you and your employees are happy.

A Printer/Scanner/Copier Trio

Gone are the days where you have to have a big, bulky machine to do the printing and scanning around your office. Pick up an all-in-one printer for your printing necessities.

Printer Ink

Yep, sadly when you get a printer, you're also going to have to get ink, because printers don't just magically print on their own.

There's a lot of ink to choose from - but make sure, obviously, that the ink you select is the kind that's made for your printer.

There's nothing worse than going to print something and then realizing you're out of ink, so make sure you stay stocked up on your printer ink of necessity.

Time Clocks

No, we don't mean the type of clock that literally tells time. (Although, we do hope that you have this.)

We mean one that will tell you when your employees clock in and out. There are online services for this, or machines that you can punch in and out of. Whichever route you decide to go, we think it's fairly important that you keep track of employee time, and think you probably do too.

A Document Shredder

When thinking of all the things you knew you needed to get your office in tip-top shape, you probably didn't think of a shredder when checking off your office essentials list.

We're here to let you know - you'll definitely need a shredder. Even if most of your transactions are conducted online, you'll still have a few that used good ol' fashioned paper.

Having a shredder increases the level of security in your office. Sometimes, certain documents will even require you to shred them through legal obligations. You don't want to have to tell people that you don't happen to have a shredder at all.

Also, if you work in a facility that packages its own products, a shredder can help you get greener. Recycled paper can replace packing peanuts. It also makes for a great compost material.

Waste Management

So you've got a shredder to get rid of your paper. But do you have enough trash cans throughout the office?

Having trash cans can actually be easily overlooked. But the more you have, the less messy your office is going to be. Make sure you have recycling available, as well.

A Phone System

It's highly likely that people are going to try to call your business, so you'll want to make sure you have a phone system in place.

Maybe you want every desk to have a phone and extension number. Or maybe you only require that reception and a few others have a working telephone.

Whatever the case may be, there's a phone out there that suits your needs.

Storage

Perhaps your office has already been equipped with large cabinets. You're probably one of the few.

Once you've got all the supplies for your office, you're going to need to find a place to put them.

This includes getting filing cabinets, free-standing cabinets, and even organizational storage for your employees at their desks. The more organized your space is, the more it's a place where people feel that they can be productive without being distracted by clutter.

Tabletop Paper Cutter

In any office life, there comes a time when you're going to have to cut paper. Sure, you've probably supplied your workspace with a nice pair of scissors. That's all good and well.

However, chances are that you're often going to have to cut a lot more paper than just a few sheets. When it comes time to complete a task like this, you don't want to waste time sitting around and cutting each individual piece of paper.

This is where you paper cutter comes in. With the paper cutter, you can finish that job all in one fell swoop.

In a smaller office, you might not have room for a large, stand-alone paper cutter. No need to worry - tabletop paper cutters get the job done just as well and they help you to save on space.

The Little Things

You likely know what we mean by this. A stapler. Staples. A stapler remover. Tape. A tape dispenser. You need your pens, highlighters, pencils - all the things that might feel small, but you definitely shouldn't overlook when it comes to supplying an office for the first time.

Break Room Supplies

And hold up! We're not done yet. You can't forget the break room.

Your employees need their well-deserved breaks. So do you.

Don't neglect the supplies you need in your break room. Besides some comfortable seating, what's the best thing you can supply your break room with? Snacks.

Give yourself a wide arrangement of munchies that you can snack on throughout the day. Wanna get really fancy? Put a coffee maker in there, and provide different flavored syrups.

Your office is going to be one of the happiest places around. And it's a proven fact that a well-designed office produces the best work.
